Use this page as a reminder of the guidance you received in the office. If anything here differs from the directions provided by your dentist, follow your dentist’s directions and call us with questions.
A Responsible Adult Must Stay With You
A responsible adult should remain with the patient until the effects of sedation have fully resolved. A patient may appear alert while judgment, balance, and coordination are still impaired.
- Assist the patient while walking and do not allow unattended stair use.
- Use extra care in the restroom and use grab bars when available.
- Do not leave the patient responsible for children or older adults for at least 24 hours.
- An adult caregiver should manage all prescribed medication during the first 24 hours.
For the First 24 Hours
- Do not drive or operate a motorized vehicle or machinery.
- Drink plenty of water and eat as tolerated, following any separate surgical or implant diet instructions.
- Rest, and follow every medication direction provided by the dental team.
- If an immediate denture was delivered, leave it in place for the period directed by your dentist.
When to Get Help
Call the office with any question or difficulty. If symptoms appear urgent and you cannot reach the dental team, go to the nearest emergency department or call 911.
Call Us If
- Breathing is difficult, the patient cannot be awakened normally, or symptoms appear life-threatening—call 911.
- Vomiting continues, fluids cannot be kept down, or confusion is worsening.
- You have any concern about a medicine, recovery, or the procedure-specific instructions.
