Your personal instructions come first.
Use this page as a reminder of the guidance you received in the office. If anything here differs from the directions provided by your dentist, follow your dentist’s directions and call us with questions.
Oral Hygiene
- Brush gently twice each day with a soft-bristled toothbrush.
- Continue normal flossing and use a water flosser on a low setting if recommended.
- If the gum tissue is sore, use a mild warm saltwater rinse or a prescribed rinse as directed.
Eating and Sensitivity
Some temperature sensitivity and tenderness around the crown can be normal at first. Begin with softer foods and gradually return to your regular diet. Use over-the-counter pain relief only as directed.
- Call if pain or sensitivity is persistent, increasing, interrupts sleep, or is accompanied by swelling.
- If your bite feels high or uneven after the anesthetic wears off, contact us for an adjustment.
- Continue wearing any prescribed retainer, occlusal guard, or sleep appliance.
Long-Term Crown Care
Care for a crowned tooth as you would any other tooth: brush, floss, keep routine dental visits, and wear a recommended occlusal guard to reduce overloading from clenching or grinding.
Call Us If
- Your bite feels high or the crown contacts before your other teeth.
- The crown feels loose or comes off.
- Pain, swelling, temperature sensitivity, or sleep disturbance persists or increases.
